Personal Profile

The face is the first thing we recognise about someone. We are the sum of all the same features and as a portrait artist, I am fascinated with how these are knitted together to make us individual.

The process of painting, embodies a huge part of myself. Time spent, individual brush strokes and my own interpretation are there for the viewer to share, allowing them time to reflect and study the work in depth.

Realism is a philosophy opposed to style and I observe and record as accurately as possible.

Millie Midgley graduated from Loughborough University with a Fine Art degree in 2015. After exhibiting her work at The Old Truman Brewery gallery in London, Millie went on to participate in Sky Arts’ popular television programme - Portrait Artist of the Year in 2017. This was a brilliant year for Millie as she also exhibited her painting of ‘Ingrid’ in The Royal Society of Portrait Painters annual exhibition which is held at the Mall Galleries, one of London’s most prestigious art galleries. Millie has also been shortlisted for the BP Portrait Award at London’s National Portrait Gallery.
